Tongue Cancer Brachytherapy

Advanced Treatment for Tongue Cancer with Focused Radiation Therapy

Tongue Cancer Brachytherapy

High-dose rate (HDR) tongue brachytherapy is an internal radiation therapy used in various scenarios:

  • As an organ-preserving treatment for patients who refuse surgery involving partial or total tongue removal
  • As an option for patients who refuse surgery
  • For patients with positive margins after surgery to improve the chance of cure
  • In patients who have had previous irradiation and need highly focused radiation to the tongue due to disease recurrence

The HyBIRT Technique

A novel technique that combines Interstitial Brachytherapy and IMRT:

  • Used in both definitive and postoperative adjuvant settings
  • Combines interstitial brachytherapy with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Achieves optimal dose distribution for superior tumor control in the tongue and neck
  • Reduces radiation-related toxicity
  • Offered to patients who refuse surgery, where surgery may cause significant morbidity, or if the patient is not fit for radical surgery

Head & Neck Brachytherapy

High-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy can also be used for:

  • Tumors of the floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, and cheek
  • Radioresistant tumors such as adenoid cystic carcinomas

Curative Option for Patients
