Intraluminal Brachytherapy

Advanced Treatment for obstruction in organ like esophagus, bronchus, or bile duct.

What is Intraluminal Brachytherapy?

Obstruction of 'pipe like' organ like esophagus(food pipe) or bronchus(Air pipe) or bile duct can be releived by intraluminal deliver of high-dose-rate brachytherapy from within the cavity.Very effective to relieve difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia) in esophagus cancer patients and biliary obstruction in cholangiocarcinoma.

How is Intraluminal Brachytherapy Done?

This technique is particularly effective for treating tumors that are located within these hollow organs, delivering high doses of radiation directly to the tumor from within the organ itself. By positioning the radiation source close to or within the tumor, intraluminal brachytherapy minimizes radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues while maximizing the treatment's effectiveness. This method is often used for palliative care to alleviate symptoms like obstruction or bleeding in advanced cancers, and it can also be used as a primary treatment for localized tumors. The procedure is typically performed using endoscopic guidance to accurately position the radioactive source within the lumen.
